The #1 Most Valuable Thing I Discovered In My Career

The most important thing I learned in my career is that it is all about your attitude and that you have full control of it – no one else does.

You can be the most talented, skilled and knowledgeable professional, but if you don’t want to share it with others and are not able to connect with your employees, you are very ineffective. Remember that people do not respect you for what you know, but for what you share with them and for how you help them grow.

Do not put yourself in the victim role and understand that you are accountable and have a responsibility to look for solutions and be part of them, rather than just pointing out the problems – everyone can do that. Only 10% in life is what happens to you and 90% is your attitude about it.

You can work hard and put endless efforts into your projects, but if you do not have the right attitude about it because you feel that you’re the only one working, this is all that your employees are going to see, your negative attitude.

It’s ok not to know everything and not to have all the experience in the world, as long as you have the willingness to grow, are supportive and take ownership, as long as you have the right attitude.

Did you ever hear someone saying that you should hire for attitude and train the skills later? Attitude makes all the difference, and it is very difficult to train or teach, if not impossible.

If you want to be successful in your career, start working on your attitude first and know that you alone are responsible for it. I know it is a lot easier blaming others if things go wrong and you fail, but I promise you that you will start feeling a lot better accepting responsibility for what you could do to make things better (and it’s ok to make mistakes as long as you learn from them and try to be better next time).
