You’re feeling like you’re out of energy, and working everyday from early mornings to late evenings just doesn’t seem to make any sense any more? You’re probably not alone, and it’s important to know that you can do something about this.
Here are my top 5 tips to get your energy back!
- Get enough sleep (and that’s 7 to 8 hours daily, no less) – check out Matt Walker’s TED Talk. I never really believed in this, or always found myself to busy to squeeze in 7 hours of sleep until I finally arrived at the conclusion that enough sleep is simply non-negotiable.
- Eat healthy – and that’s not just about the right nutrition, it’s also about eating the right amount… eating smaller portions more frequently can keep you energized throughout the day.
- Exercise! Having an exercise routine and following it consistently isn’t always that easy, and including exercise into your daily routine can go a long way. Just getting up from your desk from time to time to stretch can boost your energy – it works, give it a try!
- Goals! Set daily goals for yourself the day before. Just like with everything else, if you don’t set yourself goals at work, you’ll find yourself just being busy not accomplishing anything. It helps as well to break down your larger projects into smaller goals giving you a feeling of accomplishment by the end of the day. I recommend not to overload your daily to do task list (we all have a tendency to do this, and then get frustrated when we don’t get it done all, so be realistic), but to set stretch goals for your long-term projects.
- Keep things in perspective! Work can be stressful, and being stressed (not talking about the kind of stress that’s motivating here) doesn’t really help you getting things done either. Taking a step back, appreciating what matters almost always puts things in perspective taking away some of the stress allowing you to tackle the problem with a calm mind.
Another recommendation would be the eCourse Energy for Performance offered by Human Performance Institute by Johnson&Johnson. It comes at a cost, but is a really great program that I found to be very useful.
